Free New Year's Eve Parties.
There are of course lots of private and sometimes expensive parties to attend this New Years Eve, but where can you party for free.
The first one you probably already know about. The 22nd annual Peach Drop at Atlanta's Underground always is always where Atlanta rings in the New Year. It's billed as the largest New Year's Eve party in the Southeast, and this year will feature Tito Jackson as the headliner. If you go you're going to want to take MARTA. There's room for a hundred thousand people... Not a hundred thousand cars.
But if you're looking for more of a family atmosphere, head up to Duluth in Gwinnett county for their second annual New Year's Eve party on the Town Green. The party will feature fireworks a snow slide for a fee and country music singer Jason Michael Carroll And they're keeping it a secret again this year as to what they'll drop at the stroke of midnight.
You have to pay to go the Chick-Fil-A Bowl, but you don't have to pay to go to the parade downtown. It starts at 12:30 at Peachtree and Baker and finishes at the World Congress Center.
As for New Years Day, keep in mind that the High Museum is closed so there will not be a Fulton County Free Day during the month of January.
But if you want to for go culture and just watch people in pain... Head up to Lake Lanier for the Polar Bear Plunge. You have to pay to jump in, but you can watch them shiver for free. The event benefits the Lanier Canoe and Kayak Club.
