Brenda Wood Anchors 11Alive News at 6 & 11 as well as her signature show, "The Daily 11 at 7". Brenda joined 11Alive News (WXIA is the NBC affiliate in Atlanta, Georgia) in September of 1997 and is today one of Atlanta's most well known and trusted local news Anchors.
Brenda's distinguished career began in 1977 in Huntsville, Alabama. In 1978, Brenda left that market for a brief time to serve as general assignment reporter at WSM-TV in Nashville, Tenn. One year later, Brenda was back in Huntsville at WAAY-TV, this time as an anchor for the station. Brenda's career then led her to Memphis, Tenn. where she spent eight years as an anchor for WMC-TV. In 1988, Brenda moved to Atlanta and joined the news team at WAGA-TV.
Brenda is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Loma Linda University in Southern California with a B.A. in Speech Communication and Mass Media.
Throughout her career, Brenda has received numerous honors and awards including 15 Emmy awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), six awards from the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists (AABJ), and three awards from the Georgia Association of Broadcasters (GAB).
In 1997, Brenda was awarded the NAACP's Phoenix Award for "Best News Anchor" and in 1998, Atlanta Magazine named her "Best Local News Anchor." Brenda also was the co-producer and host of the Emmy-award winning "Journeys with Brenda Wood" which has received the National Association of Black Journalists's 1998 award for Community Affairs Programming. She is the recipient of an award from the Georgia Chapter of Women in Communication, the Gabriel Award of Merit from the National Association of Black Journalists, a journalism award from the Georgia Psychological Association, as well as several awards and honors from local civic and community organizations.
Brenda is a member of the NATAS, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the AABJ, the Atlanta Press Club, and Women in Film. In additions, she serves on the board of Kenny Leon's True Colors Theater, Chayil, Inc., a non profit that helps domestic abuse victims and she serves is on the advisory board of Kate's Club.
Brenda's faith plays a large role in her life. She and her husband Keith are very active in their church. They have two daughters, Kristen and Kandis.

On the weekends I love to: Be at home with my family
The high school, college or pro sports teams I root for are: the Atlanta Braves, Duke Blue Devils, Falcons, Hawks, Redskins, and Titans.
If I'm watching a movie or listening to music, it's probably: I love watching epic films, drama adventure and comedy. I love to listen to everything from Frank Sinatra to Diana Kroll from John Legend to BB King, from Broadway musicals to classical symphonies.
I am passionate about: My family.
