TUCKER, GA -- A Tucker High School graduate is headed for the NBA. Marshon Brooks is the newest member of the New Jersey Nets.

Tucker High School coach James Hartry is encouraging and tough. Now, Coach Hartry has another claim to fame.

"I have a guy in the NBA," he said.

That "guy" is Marshon Brooks. YouTube is filled with Marshon's highlights. He was the leading scorer in the Big East, while at Providence College - second in the entire nation. In 2007, Marshon led Tucker High School to a state championship.

Raised by a single mother, Hartry says Marshon was a handful.

"He had a lot of potential and I refused to let him go down the drain and if it took going out back to the shed that's what we would have to do and I was not going to let him miss this opportunity," Hartry said.

It's not easy for a 22-year-old walking around with a $3 million check who never had it.

Marshon and his high school coach remain close. He is living the dream of many young boys at basketball camps all over the nation. It's also a dream come true for a mentor who helped him get there.

"I am pretty happy for him and it's pretty big and pretty special," Hartry said.
