DALLAS -- Former APS Deputy Superintendent Dr. Kathy Augustine's new post in Dallas may not last long.

According to an agenda posted on the DeSoto Independent School District's website, the school board has called a special meeting for Monday night to discuss "employment and duties of the Superintendent, including the impact of State of Georgia investigative report on duties and responsibilities."

DeSoto ISD hired Dr. Augustine to take over as superintendent in April. But the report released last week from Governor Nathan Deal's office implicates Dr. Augustine.

"We conclude that Dr. Augustine either knew or should have known cheating and other misconduct was occurring," the agenda said.

DeSoto ISD board president Dr. Warren Seay said Augustine has been honest about the allegations against her and her former boss, Dr. Beverly Hall. Dr. Augustine has worked for APS since 2001, and also worked under Dr. Hall in Newark, NJ.

In a statement, Seay wrote, "Dr. Augustine has been transparent with the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees regarding this investigation since her initial interview with the Board. And, she emphatically denies all of the allegations against her."

Augustine's attorneys released a statement on her behalf last week, which stated, "I assure you that I was neither involved in nor aware of that kind of behavior . . . From this painful experience I have learned a hard lesson that I will apply in DeSoto ISD."

Dr. Augustine is scheduled to take over as superintendent of DeSoto ISD Monday. According to her contract, she will be paid $188,000.

The DeSoto ISD Board's special meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Central Time. In addition to discussing Dr. Augustine's employment and contract, the board will also discuss the possibility of appointing an interim superintendent.

The full agenda is on DeSoto ISD website.
