ATLANTA -- If you've been following the Atlanta Public Schools Twitter page, you've probably noticed how quickly and accurately it's updated.
It made us wonder -- who is this mysterious person running the page?
The lightning-speed typing, direct quotes, and super-engagement comes from none other than an APS parent turned Social Media Manager, Tammy Garnes. Garnes is someone who has managed to remain anonymous until now.
"I'm revealed; I'm revealed," she said. "I am the tweeter behind Atlanta Public Schools. Before now, no one knew my race, my sex, my anything...I like the anonymity, I like that I'm just what I consider to be the voice of the people."
Garnes is the only person who manages the school system's Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and blogs.
Her job is to get parents information as soon as it happens.
"People make fun of me about how fast I get the information out," Garnes said. "I thank a teacher for that - Ms. Smith, 10th grade, for teaching me how to type."
Even if that information is what some consider controversial.
"When the [CRCT] report came out, I was free to talk about it and engage with parents as much as I wanted to and I was happy for that," Garnes said. "The last thing we need right now is anyone censoring how feel, or what we think, or what we want to say."

Garnes live-streams town hall and school board meetings for the public. She even sets aside time for the interim superintendent and School Board members to answer questions from the web.
"If we don't talk about something, then it's like we're trying to hide something," she said.
Her focus is to get responses within minutes. Keeping the School Board accessible to everyone in 140 characters or less.
"I hope it's coming through that it's authentic, it's organic," she added. "It's coming from a parent, just like most of the people who are reading the feed."
