CANTON, Ga. -- The remnants of Tropical Depression Lee appeared to have spawned at least one tornado in Metro Atlanta Monday.

Cherokee County Emergency Management Director Robby Westbrook said he and his colleagues spotted a tornado near Canton and had to take cover in their office. Numerous reports of damage came in from across the county.

A Tornado Watch was in effect for all of Metro Atlanta until 11 p.m. Monday.

In the event of a Tornado Warning, residents should take cover and maximize the buffer between them and the outdoors with the acronym DUCK:

  • Downstairs
  • Understeath something
  • Center of the house
  • Keep away from windows
