Gwenn Weiss' BBQ Turkey Burger with Slaw

The next time you want a burger try a healthy alternative like Gwenn Weiss' BBQ Turkey Burger!

BBQ Turkey Burgers with Slaw


Burgers:
1 T. butter
1 small red onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 T. tomato paste
1 tsp. sugar
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. sriracha hot sauce
¼ c. prepared BBQ sauce
1 T. Dijon mustard
1 T. grill seasoning
1 ¼ # ground turkey or chicken
2 T. Extra Virgin Olive Oil
3 c. your favorite cole slaw (my recipe is below)
Kaiser rolls

In a small skillet, over medium heat, melt butter.  Add onions and saute for 5 minutes.  Add in the garlic, and tomato paste and cook for another minute.  Sprinkle with sugar and remove from heat.  Allow to cool in a medium bowl.

To the tomato paste mixture add Worcestershire, sriracha, BBQ sauce, mustard and grill seasoning.  Mix to combine. Add chicken to the bowl, and combine well to evenly distribute seasoning.  Form into 4 patties.  

Brush olive oil over the grill grates and heat to medium high.  Cook the patties 5 minutes on each side.

Serve burgers on a Kaiser roll, topped with cole slaw and/or your favorite burger condiments (recommended: BBQ sauce, tomato jam or chutney).


Slaw Recipe:
¾ c. low-fat buttermilk
½ c. sugar
¼ c. mayonnaise
2 T. canola oil
2 T. apple cider vinegar
2 ½ tsp garlic salt
1 tsp. creamy peanut butter
½ tsp. Beau Monde seasoning or celery salt
1 tsp. black pepper
½ tsp. soy sauce
½ tsp. Worchestire sauce
juice from ½ lemon
1 (16oz.) bag cole slaw mix

Combine all of the ingredients, except the slaw, in a large mixing bowl.  Whisk ingredients together until smooth and well mixed.
Add the slaw and gently fold in to coat evenly.
Cover and refrigerate 2 hours, or overnight.
