RIVERDALE, Ga. -- A home invasion suspect is dead and a police officer and his K-9 are in serious condition after a couple wrecks in Riverdale.

Clayton County Police said shortly before 4 a.m. Monday, four home invasion suspects crashed on Roberts Road near Riverdale High School.

One of the suspects, later identified as 21-year-old Kenneth Kenard Fortson, was killed in the wreck.

The remaining three -- 34-year-old Denico Deangelo Hawkins, 18-year-old Ramon Gartez Blalock and 32-year-old Quinton Lamont Oliver -- were arrested.

Clayton County Police spokeswoman Tina Daniel said the men forced their way into a home on Fairway Pointe Drive, where they stole money and a Wii game system.

The officer and the dog were apparently en route to where the suspects were thought to be when they got in a separate wreck on Point South Parkway. The officer was flown to Atlanta Medical Center and the K-9 officer was taken to an emergency animal clinic.

Roberts Road remained closed hours later and morning buses were rerouted to Riverdale High during the investigation.
