CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- A security officer was stabbed Saturday afternoon in a Walmart parking lot while he was attempting to detain a suspected shoplifter.
Johnny Wayne Thacker, 43, told Bartow County Sheriff investigators he and a store associate followed Katrena Elaine Evans, 32, as she exited the store at 101 Marketplace Boulevard. Thacker said when he identified himself to Evans she suddenly turned around and stabbed him and fled on foot.
The weapon used in the stabbing was identified as a multi-tool knife. Thacker was transported to Cartersville Medical Center.
An off-duty Acworth Police officer was pulling into the Walmart lot when she spotted Evans fleeing into a nearby Lowes store parking lot. The officer, Elizabeth Endicott, apprehended Evans as she was getting into her car.
Evans was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, giving false information to police and obstruction.
This Walmart is the same store where several customers recently reported being stuck by hypodermic syringes hidden in clothing.
