ATLANTA (WXIA) - Belgium-based Food Lion parent company Delhaize Group announced Thursday that it will close 113 Food Lion stores in the U.S., including 12 stores in Metro Atlanta.
The Metro Atlanta stores closing are in Carrollton, College Park, Conyers, Dallas, Douglasville, Fayetteville, Gainesville, Jonesboro, Lawrenceville, Marietta, and two stores in Newnan.
The company said the closures were part of an overall streamlining of the company's operations, focusing on the closing of underperforming locations. The stores were expected to close within the next 30 days.
Delhaize said they would be converting 64 Bloom and Bottom Dollar branded stores in the Mid-Atlantic states to the Food Lion name as part of the streamlining effort.
In addition to the Metro Atlanta closures, Delhaize said another 19 stores would close across Georgia. After the closures, 27 Food Lion stores would remain in operation in the state of Georgia.
