WOODSTOCK -- The city of Woodstock never asked for an unofficial mascot, but boy did they get one.
Bob the Turkey popped up in 2011 in an uninhabited green space right along Main Street; he stood on the sidewalk, pecked at police cars, and stayed in his cozy home through the hot summer days and through the early winter nights. Along the way, hundreds of people discovered Bob, to the point where he developed a following of nearly 1,500 likes on his personal Facebook page.

On Sunday, according to that page, Bob was hit by a car and killed by a driver coming down Main Street.
Here is the statement from the page:
We are so very sad to report that we have confirmed what some of Bob's friends have posted below. Bob was hit by a vehicle earlier today and is no longer with us. We are so thankful for all the happy memories we have of him and how in some ways he brought the community of Woodstock together. We love you so much, Bob! You were a beautiful, hilarious, fun, and brave turkey. We will miss you more than you will ever know. Rest in peace.
