SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A transgender woman was struck and killed by a car while crossing Hammond Drive in Sandy Springs Wednesday night.
The accident happened at about 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Hammond and Barfield Road near Ga. 400.
The victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she later died of her injuries, according to Sandy Springs Police spokesman Steve Rose. She was identified as 39-year-old Julie Marcella Hernandez of Sandy Springs.
The driver of the car that hit Hernandez remained at the scene and was interviewed by police, Rose said.
