KENNESAW, Ga. -- A 32-year-old husband and father killed last week was laid to rest Tuesday.

More than 1,000 people gathered to honor Jeffrey "Jay" Ingram, who was jogging along North Booth Road in Kennesaw at around 5 a.m. last Thursday when he was hit by a car.

He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with severe head injuries, and passed away at about 3:30 p.m. Friday.

Evan Kaine, an attorney representing Ingram's family, said that the victim's survivors "acted as they knew Jay wanted, and they were able to donate every single organ in an effort to help others."

Ingram's heart will go to a 50-year-old; his lungs will be donated to a 27-year-old. His liver and one of his kidneys will go to a patient with liver failure, while his pancreas and the other kidney will be donated to someone with diabetes.

"Even in death, Jay is helping others to have better lives," Kaine said in a statement to 11Alive News.

Ingram taught physical education at Kennesaw Charter Science and Math Academy. He is survived by Corinne, his wife of 10 years, and two children, eight-year-old Aiden and four-year-old Kailyn.

His funeral was held at Living Hope Lutheran Church in Kennesaw. Mourners released yellow balloons -- Ingram's favorite color -- into the sky.

The driver who hit Ingram, 50-year-old William Benton of Doraville, was not injured in the accident. Cobb County investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash.
