BREMERTON, Wash. (WXIA) -- An 8-year-old girl was shot in the abdomen at an elementary school Wednesday afternoon, allegedly by another student, authorities said.
According to reports from Seattle NBC sister station KING-TV, a teacher said it happened in a classroom. Police said the third grade girl was taken to a Seattle hospital. They said a 9-year-old third grad boy has been detained in the shooting.
Police said a weapon was found in a classroom.
A school district spokesperson told KING-TV it was believed the shooting was an accident, but police told them it was too early in their investigation to speculate.
