ATLANTA -- Naja Campbell is 11Alive's Fugitive of the Week for Apr. 4, 2012.
Campbell, 30, is wanted by Atlanta Police for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, obstruction of police and theft by receiving firearm. He's also wanted in Fulton County for violating his probation.
The U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force thinks Campbell is still hanging around Southeast Atlanta where he was last seen by police.
"We believe Mr. Campbell is still in the area and still has family, friends and associates who are helping him out," said Deputy U.S. Marshal Erick Heinze.
On July 5, 2011, Atlanta Police officers saw Campbell standing in the road near Roberts Drive and Burroughs Street in the Gladstone Apartments. Police recognized him, but he ran before they could arrest him.
Campbell ran into an apartment at 1305 Roberts Drive, according to Heinze. He said police officers backed off and called in a SWAT team because they believed Campbell was armed.
"The APD SWAT team made entry into the apartment, and while inside, they observed two loaded firearms on the kitchen table," Heinze said. "However, Mr. Campbell somehow escaped the apartment."
Heinze said the weapons were confirmed to be Campbell's. One of them was reported stolen and the other had its serial number filed off.
Campbell has been on the Atlanta Police Department's most wanted list ever since. Now the heat gets turned up because Campbell is 11Alive's Fugitive of the Week.
