Investigators said Quentric Williams, 32, is wanted for the shooting.
Police said an off duty DeKalb County officer working at the theater heard shots and went to the victim's aid. They said Williams left in an SUV and was followed by a civilian driver who called 911. Police caught up to the chase and continued to follow along Interstate 285 and US 78.
A DeKalb County patrol officer on Memorial Drive who tried to join the pursuit ended up striking pedestrian Clinton Hightower, 27, as he was walking across Memorial Drive, killing him.
They said the suspect wrecked the SUV at Lilburn Stone Mountain Road and Old Tucker Road before fleeing on foot.
A woman who was also in the SUV was held for questioning before being released.
