ATLANTA (AP) - An Atlanta woman is suing a long list of defendants after she was arrested by mistake and spent 53 days in jail. She filed a lawsuit with Fulton County Court on Friday.

Culpepper called police Aug. 21 to report her truck was stolen, but officers mistook her for a suspect wanted for aggravated assault.

Culpepper was in jail until Oct. 12. Her attorney, Ashleigh Merchant, said she hopes to make "institutional changes" in Fulton County.

The lawsuit names the city of Atlanta, Fulton County and members of the Atlanta Police Department, Fulton District Attorney's Office and Fulton Sheriff's Department as defendants. Officials from those entities did not immediately comment.

Three officers were suspended after an internal investigation into Culpepper's arrest.
