CALHOUN, Ga. -- A Dalton man was apprehended in Murphy, N.C. Saturday and charged with the shooting deaths of his mother and sister.

Gordon County Chief Deputy Robert Paris said 54-year-old Douglas Glenn Parker was taken into custody by Cherokee N.C. sheriff's deputies after an intense overnight manhunt.

Just before midnight Friday, Gordon County sheriff's deputies found the bodies of Edna Sue Fields, 71, and Rebecka June Wade, 45, at their home on Flora Drive in Calhoun.

Both victims had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

Sheriff Mitch Ralston said, "This was a vile crime in an otherwise peaceful community. Two innocent lives have been taken."

Detectives and GBI investigators have named a second person of interest in the murders. This second person was taken into custody, but has not been charged.

Investigators believe the deaths may be the result of ongoing domestic problems.
