San Francisco, CA (Sports Network) - Police were investigating San Francisco
Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval on possible sexual assault charges after a
woman told authorities she was too intoxicated to give consent, according to a
report.
Sandoval's lawyer told CSN Bay Area that his client "voluntarily met with the
Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Department related to a consensual, personal
relationship of a sexual nature that took place on that day."
The incident in question occurred early Friday morning at a resort in Santa
Cruz County, sources confirmed to CSN Bay Area, which said the third baseman
was not a registered guest at the property.
Though police were not called to the scene, a woman who contacted authorities
later said she had been too intoxicated to give her consent, according to the
report.
The report said Sandoval hasn't been charged in the ongoing investigation.
The 2011 All-Star went on the 15-day disabled list May 3. He is batting .316
with five homers, 15 RBI and a .375 on-base percentage after signing a three-
year deal in the offseason.
