WASHINGTON -- The head of the Federal Reserve is set to give lawmakers an update on the state of the economy Thursday.

The Fed chairman's appearance comes on the heels of the biggest gain of the year by the Dow Industrials and less than a week after the worst jobs report in a year.

Lawmakers will be looking for Ben Bernanke to give them a reading on the health of the economy -- and possibly signal whether the Fed may be ready to do more to keep the economic recovery going.

They'll also want to know how concerned Bernanke and other Fed officials are about the eurozone crisis--which will be a focal point at the G20 summit later this month.

A top Federal Reserve official says if the recent weak job growth continues, then more action to support the recovery will be needed.
