ATHENS, Ga. -- An Athens-Clarke County sheriff's deputy was shot in knee Friday afternoon with non-threatening injuries.
Cpl. John Williams was shot in the knee while attempting to persuade Larry Henderson from his mother's car after she wanted him involuntarily committed to a mental hospital.
The shooting happened around 3 p.m. just outside the courthouse.
According to authorities Henderson began firing at deputies with a .22 caliber pistol in protest. Deputies used a taser to subdue the suspect and arrest him.
Henderson is charged with four counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officer.
