(NBC) -- Five counts against former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards that a jury couldn't decide on in his campaign finance trial were dismissed Wednesday at the request of federal prosecutors.

Judge Catherine Eagles signed the order.

A jury acquitted Edwards on one felony count of receiving illegal campaign contributions, but deadlocked on the remaining five charges that he misused money from two wealthy donors to hide his pregnant mistress while he ran for president.
