MACON, Ga. -- Lawyers for Stephen McDaniel are expected to ask a judge Tuesday to reconsider his bond.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against McDaniel, 26, a Mercer University law graduate who has pleaded not guilty in the June 2011 slaying of Lauren Giddings.

Giddings' torso was discovered wrapped in plastic in a garbage bin beside her apartment building.

Attorneys for McDaniel contend that the $850,000 bond amount, which was set in April, is higher than his family can afford and is akin to denying bond.

Giddings, 27, was from Laurel, Md. and attended Agnes Scott College in Decatur before graduating from Mercer's law school. McDaniel is from Lilburn and is being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center.
