ATLANTA -- A small plane crashed at the end of the runway at DeKalb Peachtree Airport Monday morning.  It was coming in for a landing from Alabama.

The Hawker Beechcraft jet had four people on board when it came in around 10 a.m., according to FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen.  The two passengers and two pilots were taken to Grady hospital for treatment of their minor and moderate injuries.

The aircraft crashed into the fence at the end of the runway and stopped rolling just before reaching Dresden Drive.  Early reports were not clear whether or not the plane landed on the runway and skidded off, or missed the runway altogether.

The crash caused a fuel spill on Dresden Drive, which was closed for most of the day as hazardous material crews worked to clean it up.  The road reopened around four in the afternoon once the plane was moved to another site for further inspection.

NTSB spokesperson Eric Alleyne said the investigation into why the plane left the runway could take weeks. He would not comment on communications with the airport tower before the crash, but he said a preliminary report will be released in five days.
