The Sandy Springs Police Department is taking part in an innovative program to convert its patrol cars to run on propane in addition to gasoline.
Capt. Bart Humble is spearheading the program which in funded in part by a federal grant. Capt. Humble says propane is significantly cheaper than gasoline and does not affect the car's overall performance.
The police department says it costs just under $6000 to retrofit each patrol car. Capt. Humble says the federal grant pays for half that amount.
The police department says cars are still able to run on gasoline.
