SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Republicans say they're prepared to spend big bucks on TV ads targeting Democratic Rep. John Barrow of Augusta as he seeks re-election to Congress.

The National Republican Congressional Committee says it has reserved $900,000 worth of time for television ads in east Georgia's 12th District. Barrow's seat was redrawn last year to remove Savannah - a big part of the congressman's Democratic base. Republicans now see him as one of the most vulnerable Democrats in Congress.

The Savannah Morning News reports Barrow spokesman Richard Carbo says the GOP strategy is the sort of "hyper-partisanship" that independent voters in the 12th District reject.

Four Republican candidates are competing in the July 31 primary for a chance to challenge Barrow for his seat.
