CUMMING, Ga. -- A Cumming woman is being charged with cruelty to children and reckless conduct after leaving her 2-year-old son "trapped inside of his room, with no food or drink, in a home filled with garbage."

The woman, 21-year-old Stephanie Davis, was in police custody when deputies became aware the situation at her home in the 2300 block of Boxer Lane.

Deputies went to the house after a family member contacted the Sheriff's Office because she believed the child was home alone and unattended. Davis had contacted the family member earlier from the Roswell Police Department, where she had been arrested.

When deputies arrived at the house they found the child and a dog locked inside of the home. Authorities said, "The child was dressed in a dirty white t-shift. He had removed his diaper himself and it was on the floor, filled to overflowing with feces. The child had feces on his hands, feet and legs."

The child has been placed in protective custody with the Department of Family and Children's Services (DEFACS) and the animals were transported to Forsyth County Animal Control.
