DECATUR, Ga. -- Police said a suspect that led the members of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Squad on a high-speed chase on Interstate 20 around lunchtime Monday, remains at large.
Investigators said Royce Cross was spotted around noon on Whites Mill Lane in Decatur. They said he recognized one of the investigators who spotted him and took off in a stolen white 2008 Dodge Magnum, hitting two unmarked police cars as he fled.
Sergeant Adrion Bell with the Sheriff's Office said Cross was able to get out of the Decatur neighborhood where he had been spotted and on to I-20 westbound, where he was able to get up to 90 mph. Investigators said Cross made a u-turn in the middle of the freeway as he approached the Cascade Road exit in southwest Atlanta, and began driving in the wrong direction.
Bell said Cross hit another unmarked police car before colliding with a tractor-trailer. After the crash, Bell said Cross ran from the car, hopped a fence and got away.
Atlanta Police, Georgia State Patrol and DeKalb Police K-9 units were called in to assist in the search for Cross.
Bell says Cross is still being sought and will be charged with additional charges, including speeding and aggravated assault.
No injuries were reported in the chase.
