This year's AJC Peachtree Road Race will begin under yellow warning flag conditions

ATLANTA -- Runners at this year's AJC Peachtree Road Race will start the race under what is called a "yellow warning flag," due to the expected heat and humidity facing runners.

The warning flag is part of a new advisory system being introduced for this year's race.

At the official pre-race news conference Monday morning, officials said conditions would be of concern, and only get worse as the race progressed.

The record temperature for the start of the race is 80 degrees, and while the temperature at the start of the race is expected to be in the upper 70s, that is when the elite runners begin their journey down Peachtree. As other runners begin their race in later waves, the level of heat and humidity is expected to increase.

Runners are advised to keep hydrated and to be aware of conditions.
