DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -- Monday night's storms took the life of a Douglas County dog and sent a 59-year-old woman to the hospital.
In both cases, Douglas County spokesman Wes Tallon said lightning struck trees, then traveled through the ground to the victims.
The dog was in a dog house on Holland Drive.
The woman was standing outside her home on Heatherwood Court. Tallon said the 59 year old was was alert, conscious and breathing when authorities arrived. She was taken to WellStar Douglas General Hospital and listed in stable condition.
Lightning was also believed to have sparked a fire at a home on Landmark Drive Monday night. Fire crews were able to keep the fire contained to the roof and attic. No one was hurt.
