Cobb County Police spokesman Mike Bowman said a car collided with the hydrant Monday night on Riverside Parkway in Austell.
Water began gushing from the hydrant, but Bowman said the car was positioned in such a way that crews were unable to turn off the water until a wrecker removed the car.
The driver of the car, who was not identified, was not injured in the crash, Bowman said.
Riverside Parkway is closed from South Services to the Bluffs, according to Bowman. Cobb County Water and the Georgia Department of Transportation are working on necessary repairs.
