ATLANTA -- A quiet afternoon in the park turned into an armed robbery and shooting on Atlanta's Westside Monday.
According to the report by Atlanta Police Officer C. Harshaw, Brady Sims was sitting on a bench in Westside park, near the intersection of Interstates 20 and 285, shortly before 2 p.m., when a stranger asked to borrow his cell phone.
Sims told police he said no and the man walked away, but returned 15 minutes later with a gun. Sims said the man then demanded the keys to Sims' car and when Sims refused, he was shot in the back.
Sims said when he fell over, the suspect grabbed his car keys, wallet and cell phone, then took off in Sims' car. Sims managed to run away and call police from a house nearby. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.
His car was later recovered, but the suspect has not been found.
The suspect is described as a 5-feet-8-inch tall, 150-pound man with a medium brown complexion and short dreadlocks. Sims said the suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and blue jean shorts.
Anyone with information on him or the shooting is asked to call 911.
