ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia Power says it is working to restore electricity to about 2,150 homes and businesses statewide after strong storms roared through the state Tuesday evening and early Wednesday. 1,500 of those customers are in metro Atlanta.

The utility reported 14,800 customers were without electricity at around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday. Heavy downpours, lightning and strong winds downed trees and power lines and led to major flight delays at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

No airport delays were being reported Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service is predicting showers and thunderstorms in metro Atlanta each of the next five days, through Sunday.
