McDonald's Canada executive chef Dan Coudreaut spills the beans as to what's in the Big Mac's secret sauce.
(WXIA) -- Executive chef for McDonald's Canada Dan Coudreaut has finally spilled the beans on one of the best kept secrets in all of retail: What's in the Big Mac's Secret Sauce?
In an effort to provide more transparency, McDonald's Canada has released a series of YouTube videos where they answer questions e-mailed and sent to them by Twitter. A question posed by a poster in Oshawa, Ontario asked, simply, "What is in the sauce that is in the Big Mac?"
Coudreaut, standing in his own kitchen, pulled off his chef's jacket and rolled up his sleeves to build a Big Mac from ingredients available from the local supermarket.
In a bowl, Coudreaut showed mayonnaise, sweet pickle relish and yellow mustard. He then mixed in garlic powder, onion powder and paprika, followed by a little bit of white wine vinegar. That's it.
Diced onion and sliced iceberg lettuce made up the rest of the vegetables for the burger.
Coudreaut flattened a bit of ground beef in a metal ring to make the patty, which he cooked in a skillet.
He cut two sesame seed buns, one for the burger's top and bottom, the second for the middle piece. McDonald's has their own names for the bread pieces - the heel is the bottom, the club is the middle and the crown is the top bun piece.
The finished product looks surprisingly enough, like a Big Mac that can be found at your local McDonald's restaurant.
