ATLANTA -- A motorist has died after a fatal car accident early Tuesday morning on the Interstate 85 exit ramp to 17th, 14th and 10th streets.
According to Atlanta Police, Ronnie Bascom Jr. was travelling southbound on the exit ramp when he hit the guardrail. He got out to investigate his crash and was hit by a second vehicle.
Just after he struck Bascom, the second driver crashed into a concrete wall and the vehicle caught fire.
By that time, police had arrived on the scene. Police said they pulled the second driver, Joshua Taylor, from the burning vehicle and took him to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
Atlanta Police reported that Taylor has been charged with homicide by vehicle and DUI less safe. Taylor could face further charges for attempting to lie to police. Fulton County Sheriff's spokesperson Tracy Flanagan said Taylor will have his first court appearance at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The accident closed the exit ramp for about two hours and was cleared by 5:15 a.m.
