ATLANTA -- Officials with the Atlanta Police Department, Atlantic Station and theater owner Regal Entertainment released statements Friday morning in response to concerns in the wake of a mass shooting at a theater in Colorado.

"We are working closely with private security companies at movie theaters throughout the metro. At this time, there is no real continuing threat at this time. The FBI would inform APD if there was a threat. And that certainly can change at any moment. But off duty officers are present at some movie theaters," the statement from Atlanta Police said.

Officials from Atlantic Station, which is among locations where the movie "The Dark Knight Rises" is playing, also released a statement about public safety in their venue.

"Atlantic Station is committed to providing a safe atmosphere for all of our guests. Public safety is our top priority, and we are constantly monitoring, reevaluating and fine-tuning our procedures as needed. We are saddened by the events in Aurora, and our thoughts are with the victims and their families," said the statement from Atlantic Station management.

A statement from Knoxville-based Regal Entertainment Group echoed the sadness noted by many others across the nation, saying, "We are profoundly saddened by the tragedy that occurred at a Denver area theatre and are concerned for the victims and their families. The security and safety of our guests and staff is always our number one priority. As is our custom, we will continue to monitor the situation and adjust our security needs as necessary. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."
