Kansas City, MO (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals traded left-hander
Jonathan Sanchez to the Colorado Rockies on Friday for righty Jeremy Guthrie.
Guthrie was Colorado's opening day starter and joins the Royals after going
3-9 with a 6.35 ERA in 19 games this season, including 15 starts.
Sanchez threw a no-hitter for the Giants in 2009 but was just 1-6 with a 7.76
ERA in 12 starts this season, his first with the Royals after being acquired
last November in the trade that sent Melky Cabrera to San Francisco.
The 33-year-old Guthrie is 50-74 with a 4.37 ERA in 102 career major league
appearances, including 98 starts, with Cleveland, Baltimore and Colorado.
The Rockies traded pitchers Jason Hammel and Matt Lindstrom to the Orioles for
Guthrie in February.
Sanchez, 29, is 39-52 in 186 major league games, including 130 starts, with
the Giants and Royals.
