MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- An early morning accident and chemical spill shut down all lanes of southbound Interstate 75 in Henry County Thursday.
A tanker carrying methyl bromide overturned on I-75 just south of Highway 155, spilling the chemical all over the left lane, according to Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman Chata Spikes.
The accident happened at around 5:30 a.m. At least 55 gallons of the chemical spilled onto the road.
The driver of the truck told responding crews he hit debris in the road, according to Henry County Police spokesperson Joey Smith. He was taken to Piedmont Henry Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The guardrail near the accident suffered extensive damage, according to Spikes.
The road reopened at around 11 a.m., but the extreme delays from the accident caused numerous delays in the area.
