LONDON -- Hours after she won a silver medal and set an American record in the women's 400-meter freestyle, UGA's Allison Schmitt was back in the pool for a preliminary swim Monday morning at the Aquatics Centre in Olympic Park.

Schmitt advanced to Monday night's semifinal heats in the women's 200m freestyle race with the second-fastest qualifying time of the morning.
The 22-year-old from Canton, Mich., finished in 1 minute, 57.33 seconds. Frederica Pellegrini of Italy was first in 1:57.16.
"I'm definitely excited for tonight," said Schmitt, the American record-holder in the 200m free (1:54.40). "It felt good this morning. I'm excited to race again tonight."
The semifinals are at 7:30 p.m. (London time) on Monday. The final is Tuesday at 7:41 p.m.

Schmitt was one of four American individuals or relay teams to win a medal on Sunday night.
"It's great having the support from back home and having the support from the rest of the team," she said. "It's been a great atmosphere to be in and it's definitely showing on the medals stand."
