FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -- A man who was holding a knife to a teenager's throat was killed by a sheriff's deputy early Saturday, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
Investigator Brent Rowan said it happened while deputies were responding to a call about a fight at a home on Buckeye Road, shortly after 3:30 a.m.
"The suspect refused to drop the deadly weapon even after the victim and a witness at the scene say the Fayette deputies ordered him multiple times to do so," Rowan said in a statement.
"Fayette deputies were forced to utilize deadly force by discharging their duty issued firearm and firing a single shot striking the suspect," he added.
The suspect was 22 years old. The teen was 17. Neither of their names has been released.
The GBI is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
