Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Matt Moore got the start under center in place of
the injured David Garrard in Miami's preseason opener against the Buccaneers.
Garrard, Moore and rookie Ryan Tannehill had been battling for the starting
quarterback spot in training camp.
The competition has apparently taken its toll on Garrard, as NFL.com is
reporting the veteran signal-caller will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery in
the near future and will be sidelined for two to four weeks.
Garrard, 34, sat out the entire 2011 campaign. He was cut by Jacksonville
prior to the season, then underwent back surgery and was not picked up by
another team.
In 86 career games -- all with the Jaguars -- Garrard has thrown for 16,003
yards and 89 touchdowns against 54 interceptions while rushing for 1,746 yards
and 17 scores.
