LONDON -- Yelena Lashmanova and Sergei Kirdyapkin of Russia won gold in their respective race walking events.
Twenty-year-old Lashmanova set a world record in the women's 20 km race on Saturday and overtook defending champion Olga Kaniskina near the finish line.
She won in 1 hour, 25 minutes, 2 seconds - seven seconds ahead of the three-time world champ.
Sergei Kirdyapkin finished the men's 50 km race 54 seconds ahead of Jared Tallent of Australia and won with a time of 3 hours, 35 minutes, 59 seconds, breaking the Olympic record by more than a minute.
Kirdyapkin broke the Olympic record by 1 minute, 10 seconds.
