ATLANTA -- The Atlanta Police Department has sought financial help from the federal government to combat the growing number of car break-ins in the Peachtree Corridor area through Midtown and Buckhead, reports Reporter Newspapers.

With overtime pay, funded in part by a $500,000 federal Justice Assistance Grant, Atlanta Police will work overtime to help thwart thieves looking to steal valuables from parked cars late at night.

While almost all other crimes are down in the area from this time last year, larceny from autos has seen a 27 percent increase over the last year, according to police.
