The candidates for Clayton County Sheriff squared off in a televised debate Thursday, trading accusations about each other's character, conduct and worthiness for office.

Incumbent Sheriff Kem Kembrough is facing former Sheriff Victor Hill in an August 21st runoff for the democratic nomination. The runoff will determine who is elected sheriff because there is no republican challenger in the race.

Hill accused him opponent of being unfit for office because he allegedly fired a female employee for refusing to have sex with him. LaDonna Williams would later file a harassment law against the Sheriff.

Sheriff Kembrough, however, claims the allegations are untrue and politically motivated. He says he is challenging the lawsuit in court and hopes to have it dismissed.

The sheriff counter-attacked, pointing out that Hill is currently under indictment and saying the specter of criminal prosecution would hang over his administration.

The complete debate will on Sunday, August 19th on WPBA at 9:30am.
