ST. MARYS, Ga. -- Police shot and killed a man suspected of killing two people and setting their bodies adrift on a burning sailboat.
St. Marys Police said 67-year-old David Jerome Trauger was confronted by officers at an apartment complex Wednesday night and ordered to surrender. He reportedly raised a weapon toward officers, who fired their own guns and killed him.
A medical examiner concluded that human remains found on the boat that burned on the North River were those of two people.
The Brunswick News reports that investigators initially believed the skeletal remains of one person had been found on the boat Monday.
Authorities say the fire was so intense that it reduced the bones to fragments. After more investigation, they determined the remains belonged to two people, whose identities haven't been released.
