ROSWELL, Ga. -- Police captured a shoplifting suspect Monday afternoon after a brief bicycle chase.

Police said Alexander David was taken into custody, and would be taken to jail after being treated for minor injuries he suffered in the chase.

According to police, David went to a Kohl's department store on Holcomb Bridge Road in a stolen car, where they said he stole a shirt valued at $7.

Two nearby schools -- Centennial High School and Hillside Elementary School -- were placed on lockdown briefly as police searched the area for David.

Police said David fled to the nearby Nesbitt Lakes subdivision, where he stole a bicycle from an open garage. As David fled on the bicycle, the homeowner gave chase, while calling 911 on his cell phone.

Since police were in the area searching for David, they arrived quickly. David suffered minor injuries when the bicycle he was riding collided with a police car.

David was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. He faces numerous charges. No other injuries were reported.

Two schools in Roswell have been placed on lockdown while police search for a shoplifter.

Officials said officers responded to a shoplifting call at the Kohl's department store on Holcomb Bridge Road. They said the suspect ran from the area toward Centennial High School and Hillside Elementary School.

Police said the suspect is not armed, but the schools are on lockdown while they search the area.
