CHAMBLEE, Ga. -- Chamblee Police are investigating a homicide that happened on Saturday morning at the Mad Italian Restaurant in Chamblee.

According to police, a 911 call came in on Saturday morning reporting that someone had been shot in the parking lot of the restaurant.

Officers responded, and found a black male lying on the ground, who looked to have been shot in the right torso. He was pronouced dead after being taken to Grady Hospital, and was identified as Yannick Medjo, 35.

Polce said area witnesses reported hearing a gunshot, then seeing a blue or green SUV, either Ford Explorer or Expedition leave the parking lot.

Since the, investigators have figured out that Medjo had left his vehicle parked there overnight on Friday while he travelled to Tennessee with Phylos Pokem, who police have in custody.

Pokem told police that he and Medjo returned to the restaurant's parking lot Saturday morning, and a SUV approached them as they got out of Pokem's car. A confrontation started, and Pokem told police that the passenger of the SUV was armed with a long gun.

Pokem said he then got back into his vehicle and feld the scene, leaving Medjo behind. Pokem rented a hotel room off Northlake Parkway, and soon after turned himself in to police.

Other witnesses told police they saw a black pickup truck with an extended cab during the incident, and that its body likely was damaged in a collision with Pokem's car.

Police believe both individuals were involved in Black Money scams, and that one or both of them had ripped someone off for $40,000, based on information obtained from Pokem's car, hotel room and statements.

The second person involved according to police is Armand Patrick Ngamou, 25, who has outstanding warrants and was arrested on those.

Pokem was charged with Felony Murder, with Providing False Statements to Police Officers and Forgery.

Police believe the victim and persons in custody are from Cameroon.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Chamblee Police at (770) 986-5005.
