CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Cartersville Police Chief Thomas Culpepper announced that officers arrested Tony Lamar Sweat on Tuesday, for an incident in which $12,000 of furniture was stolen in Cartersville.
According to police, the furniture was purchased from Nelson's Furniture with a stolen credit card on May 10.
Information from their investigation lead officers of the Criminal Investigations Division to the residence of 330 Mountain Chase Drive on Tuesday. Once there, officers recovered about $10,000 of furniture and returned it to Nelson's.
Sweat, 50, was taken into custody, and charged with four counts of Forgery 1st Degree, four counts of Financial Transaction Fraud and one count of Theft by Deception. Sweat remains in custody at the Bartow County Jail.
Police continue their investigation, and could file charges on additional suspects involved with the crime.
