Ethicon, Inc. adds jobs in Athens

ATLANTA -- Healthcare products manufacturer Ethicon, Inc. plans to expand operations in Athens, creating 75 new jobs.

According to Governor Nathan Deal, Ethicon will add a 100,000 square-foot facility in Athens where suture raw material will be produced, while improvements are made on the Cornelia plant. Through 2016, Ethicon will create 75 positions and invest about $185 million.

Their sister company, Noramco, Inc. has operated in Athens since 1981. Both are subsidiaries of Johnson & Johnson. Ethicon's new facility will be constructed on the current site of Noramco.

A partnership of the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Athens-Clarke County Development Foundation will help carry out Ethicon's expansion.

"We were fortunate to meet with and assist Ethicon with their expansion in Athens, and we know them to be a great corporate citizen," Peggy Chapman, president and CEO of the Athens-Clarke County Economic Development Foundation, Inc. said. "Their plans for tremendous capital investment and creation of new jobs is expected to have a major impact on our community as well as the entire region."
