Tree completely covers malfunctioning school zone sign
ATLANTA -- Sixteen years ago, a 7-year-old boy was struck and killed by a pickup, while trying to cross busy Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway near Woodson Elementary School. It was determined that the school zone warning flashers weren't functioning at the time.
At the onset of this school year, those same warning flashers were once again not working. But that's not all. The face of one of the warning signs was completely covered by a large tree.
So, Commuter Dude contacted the Commissioner of the Department of Public Works for help. In the meantime, 11Alive's Kids and Schools reporter Donna Lowry recalls the original tragedy that happened in 1996.
